Protect Your Nails From The Sun

We all know that it’s important to apply SPF on any exposed areas like arms and legs all the time but especially in the Spring and Summer months. Do you remember to take care of the smaller areas like your toes and ears—and yes even your nails! Nails are made of protein, well keratin to be exact, they need protection just like your skin does. Did you know that your fingernails can actually get sun-burned!
The skin under the nail gets burned and it can cause damage to the fingernail/toenail by causing vertical ridges to form. Once these ridges form, it can take up to six months for the nail to completely grow out so they disappear. (It can take even longer for toe nails—up to a year and a half.) Care of your cuticles are the most important because damage can affect nail growth and even make you more susceptible to infections.
One great way to protect your nails is to use nail polish that have UV blockers, but to ensure that your totally covered, use a top coat with added UVA and UVB filters.
If the damage has already been done to your nails — don’t worry! Ridge fillers can do wonders to even out your nails.
